Beautiful Antique Engagement Ring Styles
Posted by admin in Antique Style Engagement Rings on April 16th, 2009
Antique engagement rings are unique and have an intrinsic charm beauty and uniqueness. They have a better craftsmanship and are cheaper. They are the best gift one can give to their beloved one. They are usually more than fifty years old.
Antique engagement rings are of different styles. There is the Victorian style. These had simple, delicate and elegant designs that included flowers, hearts birds and bows. They were mostly set in yellow or rose red gold. Some of them had diamonds especially those made during the period when the South African mines were discovered. This kind of jewelry is not recommended for daily use.![]()
The Edwardian style dates back to the years between 1900 to 1920. This kind of jewelry was made using platinum. The designs were mainly soft and light. Lots of precious stones such as diamonds and sapphire were also used in making jewelery in this style. The mountings on this kind of jewelry were adorned by exotic laces, piercing shapes, and friligree amongst many others. The other style is the art deco style. This style came into being after the introduction of machinery. multicolored gemstones, platinum and diamond are used to create well lined and a sparkling look on the ornaments. They are very popular even in the present time.
Before one purchases any antique engagement rings, they should check them out for any cracks or splits that may occur on softer stones such as emerald and pearl. These ornaments are available from stores, jewelers, pawn shops, estate sale and online web site auctions.

How To Buy An Edwardian Antique Engagement Ring
There are thousands of engagement rings available at national retailers or even smaller jewelry stores which will have the most popular designs, but nothing can compete with the look and feel of an antique Edwardian engagement ring. [...]
An "antique" engagement ring specifically refers to one over 50 years old. An estate ring is anything less than 50 years old, and may refer to a used ring bought only last year.
Types of Diamond Engagement Rings
If you are after a classic diamond engagement ring, look no further than the solitaire. Always one of the most popular choices, the solitaire really showcases the selected diamond engagement ring.
Antique Engagement and Wedding Rings
After families reached a marriage agreement for their children, an engagement would be celebrated with an established rite; engagement rings would be exchanged during this ceremony. The engagement ring would be placed on the left hand.
Celebrities Antique Jewelry Trends
Madonna with her Edwardian engagement ring and Catherine Zeta-Jones’s antique styled 10 carat diamond ring has revived the desire to own a beautiful antique engagement ring. In fact it’s one of the hottest engagement ring styles in 20 years.

The Engagement Rings Celbrities Wear
Posted by admin in Popular Engagement Ring Styles on April 14th, 2009
Whether it’s an 10-carat marquise diamond such as the one worn by Catherine Zeta-Jones when she promised to wed Michael Douglas, or the 5-carat oval shaped ring in pave setting, such as the one given by Tom Cruise to Katie Holmes, celebrity engagement rings are as much a testament to the Hollywood glitz and glamour as any other piece of jewelry.
Just what exactly makes celebrity engagement rings so alluring? Other than the fact that they are glimpses into the intimate lives of larger-than-life individuals, their existence in this real, 3-D world we ordinary mortals live in makes us all believe that fairy tale endings might just be possible for us, too, after all. Celebrity engagement rings transcend the pomp and circumstance of Hollywood and strike at the very expression of real and enduring love. Or at least the illusion of it. Indeed, one can argue that celebrity engagement rings and this new breed of commercialism are responsible for the malaise that grips the present state of marriages, especially Hollywood ones. Still, these rings are no longer just Hollywood props. They are real, they’re right here and they don’t come at a cheap price.
Billionaire businessman Donald Trump gave Melania Knauss a $1 million 13-carat emerald cut engagement ring. Britney Spears flashed not one, but two engagement rings: a $40,000 4 carat cushion-cut diamond ring in a platinum pave setting and another one that was given to her by (now ex) husband Kevin Federline. Not to be outdone, Paris Hilton sported two engagement rings herself: a 24-carat canary diamond ring given by erstwhile fianc Paris Latsis which came at a whopping $5 million, and another one, a cool $2.1 million 15 carat white diamond ring.![]()
Despite the current trend in engagement rings that says bigger is better, celebrity engagement rings demonstrate otherwise. Just look at the 18-carat deep blue oval sapphire worn by Lady Diana Spencer when she promised to wed Prince Charles. We all know how that turned out. Or the much-talked about $3-million 6-carat radiant shaped pink diamond Jennifer Lopez sported when she was engaged to Ben Affleck. Jennifer Lopez went on to marry Latin superstar Marc Anthony and Ben Affleck trotted off to domestic bliss with another Hollywood actress, also named Jennifer.
Nowadays, a simple diamond ring just doesn’t quite cut it anymore. According to the Diamond Information Center, the new three-stone diamond ring is fast becoming the engagement ring of choice within the Hollywood circles. The three stones on Madonna’s 5-carat Edwardian ring with bezel settings given by husband Guy Ritchie represent mother, father and son Rocco. Prince Charles gave Camilla Parker Bowles a platinum ring with an emerald-cut center diamond and three diamond baguettes on each side. Originally belonging to the Queen Mother, the ring is believed to be valued at over $1 million.
Celebrities have long dominated consumer affairs and popular culture. When Marilyn Monroe purred the now infamous line ‘diamonds are a girl’s best friend,’ sales in the diamond engagement ring market skyrocketed. Since not everybody can afford the services of jewelers-to-the-stars Neil Lane or Harry Winston, some have opted to have replicas created instead. Replicas of Lopez’s rare 6-carat pink diamond ring currently retail at a more affordable price. The cost of the replicas depends on the quality of the stones and the materials used in reproducing it. Replicas can transform an ordinary bride-to-be into the likes of Elizabeth Taylor or Jackie Kennedy. Indeed, the secret to the publics endless fascination with celebrity engagement rings lies in its appeal to make us still yearn for that elusive happily-ever after.

The Diamond Engagement Rings Of The Stars
Posted by admin in Popular Engagement Ring Styles on April 13th, 2009
What better way to show the world that you are in love than by the act of giving and receiving a diamond engagement ring? With many actresses and other famous women sporting bigger and sparklier diamond rings, celebrity engagements have become a delight for the jewelry lover. The size of the diamond is not necessarily the key as to what makes some of these rings so famous and recognizable, rather it seems to be a combination of the engagement ring itself and the famous lady it is associated with.
The history of diamond engagement rings
Maximillan I of Austria gave the first diamond engagement ring on record to Mary of Burgundy in 1477. He had the ring commissioned to unite their two houses and make their marriage a unifying symbol to the country.
The smallest diamond engagement ring ever made was given to Princess Mary who was married by proxy to the Dauphin of France in the year 1518. Princess Mary was two years old at the time.
Throughout history diamond engagement rings have become larger, more elaborate, and have included a wide variety of other jewels and metals. Diamond engagement rings settings can be made of silver, platinum, white or yellow gold or a mixture of these elements.![]()
Famous ladies and their engagement rings
Celebrities and other famous people influence the look and style of many aspects in fashion and also set trends. Diamond engagement rings are no exception to this rule. The following is a partial list of the famous ladies and their equally famous engagement rings:
Royalty:
- Queen Elizabeth II received an engagement ring from Prince Phillip that was made from diamonds from his mother’s tiara.
- Grace Kelly was given a 12 carat emerald-cut diamond engagement ring from Prince Rainier.
- Lady Diana was engaged with a ring made of an 18 carat blue oval sapphire that was circled by fourteen diamonds.
Actresses:
- Elizabeth Taylor was engaged to her third husband, Michael Todd, with an emerald cut diamond that weighed almost 30 carats. However, she is more known for her other pieces of jewelry, one more striking than the other: the 39 carat Krupp diamond, the 69.42 carat pear-shaped Taylor-Burton diamond and the 17th century heart-shaped Taj Mahal diamond.
- Priscilla was engaged to Elvis with a 3.5 carat diamond engagement ring that was circled by another 21 smaller diamonds and diamond chips.
- Sharon Stone was given a three diamond, 3 1/2 carat emerald-cut diamond engagement ring by Phil Bronstien.
- Catherine Zeta-Jones’ promise to Michael Douglas was finalized with a 10 carat antique marquise diamond estimated at amost $2 million.
- Joan Collins got a heart-shaped diamond ring in a nineteenth-century setting from husband Percy Gibson.
Pop stars:
- Madonna received from Guy Ritchie an antique Edwardian three-stone diamond ring with a decorative platinum band. The Neil Lane ring was supposed to represent their family: mother, father and son Rocco.
- In the case of Toni Braxton, drummer Keri Lewis designed a stunning 4.5 three-stone diamond ring with an oval-shaped center stone and 2 heart-shaped diamonds on the sides.
- Paris Hilton, even though not a pop star but a diva anyway, received 2 diamond engagement rings from billionaire Paris Latsis, a $5 million 24 carat canary diamond ring and a $2.1 million 15 carat white diamond ring.
- Britney Spears has two engagement rings also: one that she bought for herself before the wedding, a $40,000 4 carat cushion-cut diamond ring with a platinum pave setting, and one that she received 9 month after the marriage from husband Kevin Federline.
- Christina Aguilera became engaged to Jordan Bratman after he presented a $54,000 20-carat diamond engagement ring designed by jeweler Stephen Webster.
- Whitney Houston sports a stunning 4 carat oval-shaped center stone with trillions on the sides which she received from Bobby Brown.
Replica diamond engagement rings
Of course there is the very famous pink diamond ring that Ben Affleck gave to Jennifer Lopez. This 6 carat radiant shaped pink diamond quickly caught the attention of the public and has become a highly sought after replica. It is completed with a platinum band as well as three baguette white diamonds on each side. The pink diamond engagement ring is reported to have been purchased for $1.2 million in 2002. The ring, while easily identified is also very feminine and modern looking.
Replicas of the famous pink diamond ring are now available for a moderate price. The cost of the replicas depends on the quality of the stones and the materials used in reproducing the pink diamond engagement ring.
Some replicas are styled as more antique diamond engagement rings. These rings have an everlasting quality and symbolize tradition and heritage. The recent engagement of Camilla Parker Bowles in February of 2005 featured such an antique engagement ring. The platinum ring has an emerald-cut center diamond with three diamond baguettes on each side. This ring originally belonged to the Queen Mother and is believed to be valued at over $1 million.
Since few people can afford the original item, there will always be a market for replicas of these one of a kind diamond engagement rings. The quality of the replicas varies, as does the price. It is important to note that the styles of diamond engagement rings that are popular with celebrities will soon become the styles that are sought after by the not quite so rich and famous.

Diamond Engagement Ring Trends Over The Years
Posted by admin in Popular Engagement Ring Styles on April 12th, 2009
Guys, this message is for you. If you are about to "pop the question" by proposing marriage to your honey, then you need to do a little research first before going out and buying that engagement ring. Assuming that you want to do this without her help or knowledge, then you’ve got your work cut out for you. Shopping for an engagement ring isn’t an impossible task, but it is much easier to do if you know what you’re doing.
She Wants Diamonds, Yes!
A diamond is a girl’s best friend and, yes, the engagement ring you select must have at least one diamond in it. The ring is your statement that you will be committed to her until death do you part and it should reflect your personal relationship with her as well as her one-of-a-kind personality.
Some women are died-in-the-wool traditionalists and will desire an engagement ring much like the ones her mother and grandmother wore. Nothing but a lovely diamond solitaire for her, set on a simple, but elegant setting. Other women are carefree and want a modern look, a ring that looks much more like a fashion statement than an engagement gift. That’s all right, jewelry designers have been keeping up with the trends and have designed a ring just right for her.
What’s "In" Is What She Wants
Fashion trends come and go and the same can be said with jewelry trends. However, when it comes to engagement rings, what she wants is what she’ll get, but let’s examine some of the popular trends of today:
Vintage Styles – That engagement ring handed down by your grandmother could be the exact style that she wants. Ornate, romantic, and timeless, antique rings are very much in vogue, something many young women desire. One option: present the ring to her "as is" and have it resized or remounted later. She may prefer the diamond and not the band, or her heart could be set on the band so in that case you’ll be doing some diamond shopping after you propose marriage. No ring handed down? No worries – you’ll find plenty of antique-looking styles when you shop for an engagement ring.![]()
Fresh Colors, Different Gems – Pink engagement rings are prized for their unusual color as well as for their value. Extremely rare, they are also very expensive and given only by the bridegroom who has very deep pockets. Less expensive then pink diamonds, but still unusual are yellow diamonds. Three diamond rings with a center yellow diamond and white diamond side stones has a special look some brides favor.
Various Shapes, Stylish Bands – Round cut stones are still the most popular, but cushion, radiant, square and heart-shaped cuts have a following too. As far as the band itself, your espoused may be open to an attractive white gold twist tension band or a designer band such as a Danhov MicroPave.
Seeking Help from Friends and Family Members
Of course, narrowing down the styles can be difficult if you aren’t already familiar with her tastes. Dropping hints or asking her friends or a family member to help out can be useful, provided that they are people who won’t spill the beans.
Ultimately, your engagement ring selection will reflect your desire to please her and prove that you patiently took the time to find a ring you believe she will prize forevermore. She already loves you and the ring you present to her will be your outward demonstration of your love for her.

Picking The Right Engagement Ring
Posted by admin in Finding The Perfect Ring on April 9th, 2009
If you have started looking at engagement rings than I am sure you have found countless guides about the 4 C’s – clarity, cut, carat and color. These are the four factors which determine the price of a diamond in an engagement ring. If you are on a budget but still need to get her the perfect ring than you should consider buying for style. If you buy her the perfectly styled ring now, you can always replace the diamond later for a bigger one when you can afford it. This article will be your guide to the main engagement ring styles that are popular today.
Engagement ring styles refer to the engagement ring settings which is the actual metal that makes up the ring. There are currently six different engagement ring settings which are popular and stylish.
Engagement Rings – Solitaire Settings
Solitaire settings are the classic settings for engagement diamond rings. These beautiful engagement ring settings are stylish for all shapes of diamonds – Round, Oval, Pear, Marquise, Emerald, Heart, Radiant and Asscher. The advantage of these settings is that light gets to the stone and reveals the diamonds’ brilliance and true colors. The disadvantage is that the engagement ring settings offer less protection to the stone. These settings are the most popular form chosen for engagement ring settings.![]()
Engagement Rings – Cathedral Settings
Diamond Engagement ring setting styles come in all shapes and settings. Cathedral settings are one the most romantic diamond settings that exist. The center diamond in Cathedral settings are beautifully displayed and securely nested between bands extending from each side, providing protection to your diamond. For a perfect look in an evening gown or tennis outfit’ choose these engagement diamond ring settings.
Engagement Rings – Two Tapered Baguette Settings
The Two Tapered Baguettes Engagement Ring settings will surround your center diamond with two other shining diamonds to bolster the look of luxury. At any social event, you will likely find everyone gawking at these brilliant diamond ring settings.
Engagement Rings – Antique Engagement Ring Settings
Antique Style Engagement Ring Settings create the romance and air of majesty and kingdom. The center diamond, in an antique Style Engagement Ring, is often a fancy cut diamond – Oval, Pear, Marquise, Emerald or Heart. These types of diamond ring settings were designed for a queen.
Engagement Rings – Bezel Settings
These diamond ring settings, place the diamonds within a collar at near level with the surface of the ring. A bezel set diamond ring adds height and dimension, protects the diamond’s girdle from damage and fits complex diamond shapes. These diamond ring settings, in white, will cause the diamonds to appear larger than they really do. If the diamond ring settings are yellow, the diamonds set within will also appear yellowish. The Bezel Setting may be used with most shapes of diamonds.
Engagement Rings – Channel Settings
Channel Diamond Ring Settings is another way of setting small diamonds on two sides, in order to create impressive engagement ring settings. Channel Settings protect the diamonds girdles and are completely smooth. Channel settings are not recommended for fragile stones. Note: You may have trouble trying resizing a ring with stones set all the way around it.

Tips For Finding Engagement Rings For Cheap
Posted by admin in Finding The Perfect Ring on April 8th, 2009
Once upon a time, commitment rings were all the rage with soldiers going off to war who were leaving their sweethearts at home. Couple exchanged rings, not to signal their engagement, but as a symbol of their love while they were apart.
Now in the 21st century, commitment rings are making a comeback.
Diamonds are all about getting engaged, while gold is associated with marriage. But many couples are finding they want something symbolic, something different, as a token of their love towards each other. And of course, there are now many couples who aren’t ever planning on getting married, but would like to express their love with a ring.
So contrary to what some people say, commitment rings, or promise rings as they’re also known, aren’t just a fancy or new-fangled way of saying ‘engagement ring’. They’re just about two people finding a symbol of unity as a way to express their feelings towards each other.
So what makes a good commitment ring? Check out these six pointers to help you in your quest for a great ring:![]()
1) Showing your commitment with a ring isn’t necessarily about splashing the cash. It’s about finding something that expresses a common tie or interest or belief; it’s not about making some huge financial investment (you can do that with the engagement ring if everything works out!). And you’re in luck because there are some great affordable promise rings on the market.
2) Go for something unique, because you are unique and so is your relationship. What do I mean by unique? Original design is always a winner, or interesting and unusual materials can be real showstoppers. For example, rings made from natural Amazonian seeds that are then inlaid and lined with silver provide an original take on the traditional seed ring. And an original ring design needn’t mean it’s going to break the bank.
3) There’s a lot to be said for going for a complete contrast with anything that might look an engagement or wedding ring. After all, you don’t want to give off the wrong message. I have an 18-year old friend whose parents freaked when they saw him wearing a promise ring that looked to them like it was a wedding ring.
4) Fair trade rings show that you care about our world and care about who is making your jewellery. After all, do you really want the rings that symbolise your love to have been made under exploitative conditions?
5) It’s best to choose your commitment rings together, unless your partner has complete confidence in your taste and choice!
6) If you or your partner think of jewellery as more of a female thing, fear not. Rings need not be effeminate. Ultimately, a promise ring is not about hard and fast rules, but about finding rings that you are both comfortable with. That’s part of their beauty.
Bear in mind these simple pointers when you’re choosing your promise rings and you’ll have a symbol of your relationship to wear and enjoy!

Four Things To Know About Diamond Jewelry
Posted by admin in Finding The Perfect Ring on April 7th, 2009
Is there a better gift to give a woman than emerald cut diamonds? They are the most versatile gift you can possibly choose for a woman of any age and you never need to worry about diamond jewelry going out of style. You would be hard pressed to find one who would turn down an emerald cut diamond engagement ring.
Diamond jewelry complements any type of style, from a formal event to a night out in jeans. In all actuality, it is a woman’s jewelry that gives the final touch to any outfit. Emerald cut diamonds are a great way to catch someone’s attention to what you have on. There is a reason why they are a girl’s best friend.
Now that you’ve taken my advice on shopping for an emerald cut engagement ring, more precisely buying diamonds, you better learn about the four C’s of diamond jewelers. Many men make the mistake of not knowing what they are, what they really mean and how to be sure they are getting what they want and more importantly, what they are paying for.
Cut – The Cut of the diamond is the only characteristic of the four C’s which is man made. Every diamond is cut in just the right way in order to give create its famous sparkle. The way the diamond reflects light is dependent on how well the emerald cut diamonds are cut. A simple rule is to remember is the better the cut, the more expensive the diamond jewelry is.![]()
Clarity – This is somewhat self-explanatory. It rates how clear a diamond is. The clarity rating lets you know the amount of imperfections in the emerald cut diamond engagement ring you are looking at. You’ll notice there are two categories used to detail defects. The first is internal inclusions and the other is external blemishes. The fewer amount of imperfections an emerald cut engagement ring has, the more expensive and rare it is.
Carat Weight – Of all the C’s, carat weight is the easiest to follow and understand. It’s basically the size of the diamond and is one of the biggest factors in determining how much the emerald cut engagement ring costs.
Color – Color is based on a scale from D-Z. Stone graded a D through F in color is thought to be colorless. While, grades G through J are near colorless. The human eye can only detect color in a diamond starting in the I-J range.
Never make a mistake when are buying diamonds as a gift. You only get one chance to do it right so make that chance count. No matter what the occasion may be, mother’s day present or emerald cut diamond engagement ring, the perfect diamond will show your love for is forever.
